MAKE SOMETHING OF ADVENT THIS YEAR

​This Advent we begin a year of preparation for the Holy Year in 2025. The Holy Father has asked us to make PRAYER the focus of our preparation. Advent often gets lost in the preparations for Christmas, so to help us focus more on prayer we are encouraging the following initiatives:

• The Angelus will be prayed at the beginning of each of the Sunday Masses.
• Morning Prayer of the Church will be celebrated on Saturday Mornings at 10.30am in the Lady Chapel of St Michael’s. (This lasts for 15 minutes) Adoration will continue to be available afterwards.
• Download here a copy of the Advent Supper. This is for a family meal at home which celebrates the spiritual meaning of advent.
• The Rorate Mass will take place in the Lady Chapel at SS Peter & Paul on Saturday 9th December at 7.30am. This will be followed by bacon butties in the Milner Room. (The Rorate Mass is a special Mass of Our Lady celebrated in candlelight before dawn. As dawn breaks it focuses us on the dawn of our salvation in the birth of Jesus.)
• Copies of ‘Walk with Me’ daily prayer booklets for Advent will be available in each church this week.
• Come and sing carols at the Carol Concert at SS Peter & Paul on Friday 15th December at 7.00 pm
  
• City Centre Nativity and Lantern Parade On Saturday 16th December starting at St John’s Square at 3.00pm.
